Spirit of Daytona Podcast With Trackbytes.com
![]()
Photo by John ThawleyWe caught up with Doug Goad and Larry Oberto from Spirit of Daytona at VIR this weekend and got the opportunity to get their views on Grand Am prototype racing and running in the rain. Doug talks about his dream of running prototype cars, the team's relationship with Bobby Labonte and the level of competition in the DP field.
Oberto reflects on his season to-date and his love of street racing. Great stuff.
Unfortunately, about an hour after our conversation, the team's weekend took a turn for the worse. I can tell you, though... these guys will be back at it next week in Laguna Seca with a "never-say-die" attitude. Don't count them out.
Playboy Racing Checks In With Trackbytes.com

Photo by John ThawleyWe were able to put aside some time to conduct a couple of interviews this weekend at Virginia International Raceway. First, let me say, if you have never been to VIR, you owe yourself a trip. It is spectacular. It's pure sportscar racing in every way. Think Field of Dreams. The history is all around you.
Our guests this weekend were Michael McDowell, Guy Cosmo and Tommy Constantine from Playboy Racing and the #19 Playboy Uniden car.
Take the time and give a listen to what these competitors have to say. Some great insight to racing in the rain and running in the top tier of Grand Am racing. Michael McDowell's visit came after the teams Saturday win... a win that, oddly enough, put his co-driver, Guy Cosmo on the poll for the Sunday main event. Cosmo is filling in while Memo Gidley recoups from an accident at Long Beach.
